Project Description

To provide a new home to relocate a closed community of 30 nuns in South Liverpool.

The client purchased the property with intention of replacing redundant outbuildings and unused football pitches with a purpose-built monastery to provide more desirable accommodation better suited to modern-day living.

The project comprised building a new 4,000m2 three-storey building which features a central chapel, sleeping accommodation to upper floors with kitchen, dining room and communal areas at ground level. The premises include infirmary for elderly sisters, working garden with a lake and newly developed meadows and woodland.

The building is naturally ventilated, heavily insulated and is supplemented with ground source heat pumps and solar panel heating in conjunction with grey water harvesting system.
